1982 - 1983 Masters Ronald Nichols & Norman Harding

Master 1982 - Ronald William Nichols became a Liveryman of the Company in 1950 and was elected onto the Court in 1968.  Ronald died in 1994.

Master 1983 - Norman H Harding OBE - a jeweller by profession, he joined London Jewellers, Drayson in the mid 30s.  In the late 40's he moved to Asprey, later managing the Fenchurch Street branch and becoming a Director.  He retired in 1982.

In 1970 Norman was elected Common Councillor for Farringdon Within Ward and his civic career culminated in a long period as Chairman of the Planning Committee and his year as Chief Commoner in 1982.  He also served on the Irish Society and as a Governor and Almoner of Christ's Hospital.

He joined the Livery in 1962 and served a long period as Assistant Clerk, laying the foundations of our ceremonial.  In 1967 he stood in as Clerk during the then Clerk Philip Cresswell's Mastership.  After his year as Master in 1983 Norman remained on the Court and later was made a Past Master Emeritus.

Norman was awarded the OBE for Services to the Corporation of London.

Norman had a rich and varied life.  In 1951 he married Pearl Winsor and this wonderfully happy 55 year marriage was the bedrock of his life.  They had four children, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  Norman died in 2009.
