1991 - 1993 Masters Albert Clover, Derrick Kaye & Geoffrey Perkins

Master 1991 - Albert Henry William Clover was born on 18th June 1912 in London.  In 1917 his family moved to Richmond Surrey and except for the years 1964-72 when he lived in France his home was in Wimbledon on the outskirts of London.  After a grammar school education he matriculated with distinction and award a Cambridge Scholarship, which he was obliged to decline.

In November 1934 he married Di Lovecy and they had two sons, David and Ian, who were both Liverymen of the Painters Stainers Company.

On leaving school he joined his family firm of Industrial Painting Contractors.  It was founded in 1868 by his grandfather who was responsible for painting Tower Bridge, when it was erected.  The firm continued with Albert's sons who took on the task of painting the new Thames Bridge at Dartford.  In addition to carrying out contracts in every area of the United Kingdom the firm has worked in 19 countries overseas.

Frequent and prolonged necessary absences from home precluded Albert from taking any active part in team sports, or in civic or political activities.   However he did enjoy big game fishing in many parts of the world and his leisure activities were mainly gardening and walking.

He was a member of Eccentric and City Livery Clubs as well as a Past Master of the Lodge of Love & Friendship.  Albert died in 1997.

Master 1992 - Derrick Jeffrey Kaye  was born on 30th May 1929 in Enfield.  In 1937 his family moved to Broxbourne, Hertfordshire where he lived until he married in 1957 and moved to Hertford.  He was educated at Hertford Grammar School and Haileybury.  Derrick did National Service in the Royal Air Force from 1948 to 1950 serving in Germany during the Berlin Air Lift. After a short period in a commercial advertising agency, he studied accountancy before joining the family firm of Thames Wire & Cable Co. Ltd., manufacturers of insulated copper and aluminium winding wires for use in the electrical industry.

In July 1957 he married Barbara Reay and they had two daughters, Susan and Alison, and a son Christopher.  Derrick was always keen on sport, particularly hockey, sailing, water and snow skiing and golf.  In 1983 he gained his private pilot licence and owned his own aircraft.  As well as being a director of Thames Wire & Cable Co. Ltd. he was a director of Cable Drum Supplies Ltd., Thames Wire & Cable Pty Ltd. and Thames Wire & Cable Holdings Pty Ltd. in South Africa.  He was a director of the Cheshunt Building Society from 1971 until it merged with The Bristol & West Building Society in 1991, and was Chairman from 1982-1989.  He retired from the UK companies when they were sold in May 1992.  Derrick died in 1997.

 

Master 1993 - Geoffrey B Perkins was married to Barbara and for many years was Secretary of the GSWD Golf Society.  He died in 2014.
