Master 1995 - Geoffrey Bernard Brunning was born on 10th January 1936 in Wallasey, Cheshire. Educated at Birkenhead School, his family moved south in 1954. Four years later he married Gillian Garwood and they had two sons and three daughters. Tom, the eldest son is a Liveryman and a Court Assistant of the Company.
After a period of training Geoffrey joined the family advertising firm, The Brunning Group PLC, and in 1973 succeeded his father as Chairman. In 1986 he sold his shareholding to a group of his executives and retired. He was also involved in The Readicut Wool Company in which he became International Marketing Director. In 1974 he was made a director of Societe Rochfortaise, a publically quoted French company where he looked after the English interests. He is a fellow of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising and a member of the Advertising Association.
Geoffrey became a member of the Livery in April 1964. He was introduced by Sir James Greenwood whom he had met through business. After joining the Court of Assistants he became the Liaison Officer for the Royal School of Needlework before becoming Master. During his time as a Past Master he chaired the finance committee, putting his investment expertise to good use for the Company. He became a Past Master Emeritus when failing health meant that he could no longer be active within the Court. He was a President of the Seamaster Owners Club and enjoyed playing chess.
Geoffrey died on 30 August 2006 and is survived by his wife, Gillian, and four children.
