1998 - Peter Padley-Smith

Master 1998 - Peter H E Padley-Smith was born in 1930 and married Shirley in 1960.  Peter's National Service was with the 1st Battalion The Gordon Highlanders and was in Berlin with the Battalion during the Berlin Air Lift.  On leaving the Gordons in 1950 he joined the 1st Battalion The London Scottish TA until 1969 when he then enlisted into the 5th Battalion The Queen's Regiment (Army Cadet Force) and was Platoon Commander of several units within the Guildford area.

Peter was a Fellow of the Life Insurance Association, Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Member of the Insurance Institute.  He was always keen on sports, especially athletics (cross country, track and field events), hockey and rugby, playing hockey for Richings Park and rugby for Chiltern RFC and London Scottish RFC as well as having been a member of Guildford & Godalming RFC for over 30 years.

Peter served on numerous committees - He was divisional chairman of Woking Constituency Conservative Association for 4 years, branch chairman for 3 and treasurer for a further 3.  He was chairman of trustees of the Normandy British Legion and served on the committee of the local Army Benevolent Fund.  Peter was a Past Master of the Lodge of Love & Friendship and its treasurer for 12 years.
