1976 - Ald. Ronald Arthur Ralph Hedderwick

There could be few members of the Livery who were not aware of the election of Ralph Hedderwick and his assumption of office as the Lay Sheriff of the City of London in September 1975.  That was just the beginning of a momentous year for him and Gill his very charming wife, for on the 5th January 1976 he was installed as Master of the Company.

The Hedderwick family had been closely associated with our Livery for three generations and indeed the fourth generation as well; the Master's grandfather served in office in 1929 and but for his untimely death his father also would have reached the chair.

A Stockbroker by profession Ralph Hedderwick was Chairman of the thriving firm Hedderwick Stirling Grumbar & Co., a member of Common Council for many years and Governor of Haileybury and Sherborne schools and had interests in many other Charitable Institutions.

As a conclusion to his year he was elected Alderman for the Ward of Farringdon Within in the October and after confirmation by the Court of Alderman took office in the November.

In 2016 Ralph celebrated his 100th birthday.
